Massive outrage hits Indore’s shishukunj international school after yoga day meal leaves 62 students seriously ill

Outrage hits Indore’s Shishukunj School after Yoga Day meal leaves more than 100 students ill
A wave of panic and massive protests broke out at Shishukunj International School in Jhalaria, Indore, on Monday after hundred of young students fell severely ill. The medical emergency follows a meal and water served during the school's Yoga Day celebrations over the weekend.
According to distressed parents and school sources, more than 100 children from the Kindergarten (KG) to Class 4 sections fell ill after consuming the midday meal and water provided on campus. The affected students complained of acute abdominal pain, continuous vomiting, and high fever. As the situation escalated rapidly, parents rushed their children to nearby private hospitals and paediatric centres. Attending medical staff later confirmed multiple cases of acute food poisoning, gastroenteritis, and severe dehydration.
Video exposes chaotic standoff at school reception
Newly surfaced video footage reveals the intense confrontation between frantic parents and uncooperative staff inside the school’s administrative building.
The video captures a large crowd of anxious parents packing into the reception area, actively confronting school officials behind the counter. In the recording, parents can be heard demanding immediate answers, shouting:
“We have been standing here for the past half hour. Are you going to increase the staff only when we tell you to, or do it on your own? Parents are extremely worried, so many are standing here, and you are taking no action at all. What is the meaning of just standing there silently?"
The footage underscores a complete breakdown in communication, with parents visibly distressed by the administration’s slow response while young children look on amidst the chaos.

Parents storm campus demanding accountability
By Monday morning, the suspected case of contaminated food and water sparked an uproar throughout the local community. Senior food safety officer Manish Swami said, “Following several cases of ill students at the school, we went to the school to collect food sample.” He added that there was a doubt of expired spices, salt and other items being used in school.
“The samples will be sent to Bhopal for testing,” Swami said.

Cops intervened
With the growing agitation, video proof of the confrontation, and the gravity of the health crisis, cops from Kanadiya police reached the school at 1.30 pm.
The school authorities in the statement to Kanadiya police station in-charge Saharsh Yadav noted that the food was served on Saturday. “The school officers said that the food was served on Saturday, and that they have installed necessary security measures like CCTV in the mess,” Yadav said.
He added that students were not hospitalised, but they are ill. “As of now, no medical certificates were submitted to us,” Yadav said.
However, the parents did not file a written complaint with the police station. Hence, no further action was taken as of now.

School says...
“Yes, we are concerned because quite a lot of school students got sick suddenly. However, there is no proof that they got sick because of the school. We received several emails and complaints. It should be noted that complaints came after 48 hours of children facing stomach infections. We launched an investigation at our end for food and water. Food doesn’t have a lot of chances. There is no stale food used in our school. There was cooked food with rajma, rice and chaulai, and we served ice-cream. The ice cream was from Amul, a well-known brand. It was manufactured in June. The shelf life was one year. Now, in water, we have RO plants in both junior and senior wings. The RO plant was also serviced last month. All the school staff had the same food as the kids. We are still trying to find out why the kids fall into sickness due to an infection. We have received 35 emails, and we have a record of 100 students. Students of the junior wing have mostly reported infections. Even parents are welcome to inspect the school’s kitchen and mess.”

A pattern of safety concerns: The previous incident
This latest health scare has reignited deep anxieties among parents regarding the institution's overall safety and supervision standards. As documented in institutional safety filings like this is not the first time Shishukunj International School has come under the scanner for student safety lapses.
Just a few months prior, in November 2025, the school witnessed a major safety breach when a glass beaker containing dilute hydrochloric acid unexpectedly exploded during a live chemistry demonstration. That incident, which occurred in front of Class 7 students, left five children injured with glass shards and chemical splashes, requiring urgent treatment from a skin specialist.
