Bhopal lab steps in as Indore launches massive food safety crackdown across school kitchens after Shishukunj scare

The recent food poisoning crisis at The Shishukunj International School has snowballed into a major city-wide safety campaign, with worried parents demanding stricter supervision over what their children consume during school hours. On Tuesday, local authorities widened their investigation, launching surprise inspections across all campuses operating independent student messes in Indore.

Senior food safety officer Manish Swami revealed that the local administration has escalated the case to get definitive answers for the families. "We have sent all the food and water samples collected from the Shishukunj campus directly to the state food laboratory in Bhopal for detailed analysis," Swami said.

The emergency inspections come on the heels of Saturday’s unsettling incident, which saw more than 110 primary school children suffer from severe vomiting and stomach pains. Determined to ensure no other school is compromising on hygiene, food inspectors spent the day auditing pantries, reviewing supply chains, and check-marking expiry dates at various educational institutions.

"The safety gaps uncovered during our raid at Shishukunj made it clear that we needed to step in immediately. We are now running a targeted drive to collect and review food samples from every single school running a campus mess in the city," Swami noted.
