World Environment Day 2026 Celebrated with a Renewed Commitment towards Climate Action and Sustainable Living

Indore, June 5, 2026: The 34th Annual Environmental Discourse Week (May 30 – June 5, 2026) concluded with an inspiring World Environment Day celebration at the Jimmy McGilligan Centre for Sustainable Development, Village Sanawadiya, Indore, India bringing together students, educators, environmentalists, and community members to reflect on their shared responsibility towards protecting the planet and building a sustainable future for the next generation.

The Concluding session of weeklong programs of World Environment day 2026 witnessed enthusiastic participation from students of Intellect Heights Academy CBSE School, who engaged actively in discussions on climate action, environmental conservation, and sustainable living.

The programme was graced by Dr. Yogesh Goswami, Vice Chancellor, Shri Vaishnav Vidyapeeth Vishwavidyalaya, Indore, as the Chief Guest, and Dr. Ranjana Goswami, Professor of Chemistry and Environmental Science, as the Guest of Honour. The program commenced with the traditional blowing of blowing of conch shell (Shankhnaad) and Prayers by Virendera Goel , Janak Palta McGilligan, followed by a captivating theme-based Kathak performance by Nitya Batra, which beautifully portrayed the relationship between humanity and nature and highlighted the importance of living in harmony with the environment.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Ranjana Goswami stressed the importance of environmental awareness, scientific understanding, and sustainable lifestyles in tackling contemporary environmental challenges. She encouraged students to become informed decision-makers and active participants in creating a greener future. 

In his keynote address, Dr. Yogesh Goswami highlighted the various environmental initiatives undertaken by Shri Vaishnav Vidyapeeth Vishwavidyalaya, including large-scale tree plantation drives, campus greening programmes, and sustainability-focused activities. He emphasized that educational institutions play a vital role in nurturing environmentally conscious individuals and creating long-term positive change.

The programme served as a valuable learning experience for the students, providing them with deeper insights into climate change, biodiversity conservation, resource management, environmental responsibility, and sustainable development. Students learnt how simple actions such as conserving water and energy, reducing waste, planting trees, and making environmentally conscious choices can collectively contribute to a healthier planet.

Inspired by the discussions and interactions with experts, many students expressed their commitment to adopting sustainable practices in their daily lives and spreading environmental awareness within their families and communities. The event reinforced the message that meaningful climate action begins with oneself and that today's responsible actions can help ensure clean air, safe water, and a sustainable future for generations to come.

Collective Action Commitments by Participants all the participants 

They deliberated on the collective actions that individuals can undertake and promote within their communities to contribute to the objectives of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) World Environment Day theme. 

Following are the #Climate Actions , practical and sustainable measures  

1. green products during construction activities.

2. use of jute cloth /bags , no single use plastic bags. 

3. using biodegradable materials for plants.

4. promoting eco-friendly practices in daily life. 

5. developing terrace gardens. 

6. Reducing buying of new clothes. 

7. Plastic free kitchens. 

8. Carrying steel glass instead of using disposables.

9. Planting a plant and nurturing it for 5 years.

10. Generating less medical waste in hospitals.

11. Efficient use of water resources.

12 Switching of lights when not using.

13 Using Solar thermal Cookers. 

The celebration was not merely an event but a call to action—encouraging young minds to transform awareness into action and become active contributors to a greener, healthier, and more sustainable world. The programme concluded with a heartfelt Vote of Thanks was given by Mr. Virendra Goel, expressed gratitude to the distinguished guests, participants, teachers, volunteers, and organizers for their valuable contributions and unwavering commitment to environmental protection. It was zero budget zero waste program.
