Activities, organised by Daly College under its flagship programme Immerse and Inspire, culminated in a deeply impactful experience with PadamShri Janak Palta McGilligan at the Jimmy McGilligan Centre for Sustainable Development. Nestled in the serene outskirts of Indore, the centre offered a powerful glimpse into how sustainable practices can be seamlessly integrated into daily living. With its commitment to zero-waste systems, solar-powered solutions, and green living, the centre served as a live model of eco-consciousness in action.
What stood out most on this concluding day was not just what the children observed, but the questions they asked Dr McGilligan . Moved by the remarkable systems in place, they engaged deeply with the centre’s mentor and guide , eager to understand her personal journey — what led her to this path, what inspired her commitment to sustainability, and how she overcame challenges along the way. Her candid reflections left the children thoughtful and inspired.
The mentor’s story — a journey of purpose, passion, and perseverance — became a highlight of the visit. Her deep respect for nature, dedication to self-reliant living, and belief in simple, mindful choices offered the children a new lens through which to view their own lives.
Beyond observing solar cookers, solar dryers, dense plantations, and a functioning zero-waste lifestyle, the children came to understand that sustainability is not just a concept, but a way of living — one that brings ease, purpose, and a deep connection with nature.
The visit was more than an educational trip; it was a moment of awakening. The children returned with not just knowledge, but a desire to act, to change, and to contribute — however small — to a better, greener world.
