Proposal to Develop Polo Ground Area as Nature Park Discussed with Indore Municipal Commissioner
Indore, May 1, 2025 — A proposal for the development of 12.88 hectares of government land in the Polo Ground area was discussed today with Indore Municipal Commissioner Shivam Verma. Leading environmentalists, including Dr. Janak Palta McGilligan, Padmashree Bhalu Mondhe, Ambrish Kela, Dilip Vaghela, Prof. O.P. Joshi, and Mukesh Verma, met with the Commissioner to present their recommendations for the project.
The environmentalists strongly recommended that the area be developed as a “Nature Park” instead of a public park or tourist resort. They emphasized the importance of preserving the existing natural forest and introducing Miyawaki trees to strengthen the ecological balance of the region. Dr. Janak Palta McGilligan also stressed the need for the development to focus on ecological sustainability rather than becoming a commercial or recreational space.
Shivam Verma responded positively to the suggestions, assuring the group that the development process would include their participation and input. He also pledged to arrange a consultation meeting to ensure the project meets the ecological and environmental goals set by the community.
The proposed development aims to increase Indore's green cover and promote sustainable urban planning, with a focus on preserving nature and enhancing the city's ecological footprint.
