At IIT, Indore - Dr. Janak Palta Didi told how she spent 39 years of her life in love for nature, social respect for tribal women and awakening the society

PM Shri Kendriya  Vidyalaya, under the joint auspices of    IIT Indore  and Indian Institute of Technology Indore, in the memory of Jimmy McGilligan, husband of Dr. Mrs. Janak Palta, the Padma Shri awardee, in the 'Sandipani Seminar Hall' at  IIT Campus . “ A  Seminar  was organized on the topic “ Practicing  Sustainable Living for  Viksit Bharat India” Guest speakers  were
 solar engineer from Maharashtra, Dr. Ajay Chandak  and Padma shri  Dr Janak Palta McGilligan .        

In her address as the keynote speaker in the program, Dr. Janak Palta Didi told how she spent 39 years of her life in love for nature, social respect for tribal women and awakening the society. Didi said that she does social service as a divine service. Didi has done the work of liberating the tribal women from the smoke generated on the stove by training them in the use of cookers running on solar energy. He says, "To live in harmony with Indian cultural values and to make all efforts for the welfare of the world, to preserve indigenous knowledge, art, culture and nature is our ultimate religion." According to her  "The sun is giving unlimited light and its energy. "It's not being smart not to harness Sun's  energy." "Taking energy from the Sun is as easy as looking at it." These are not just her words, but she lives by cooking her food on solar energy for about 300 days of the year, and uses briquettes for the remaining 65 days. She  changes her LPG gas cylinder every 2 years and 4 months. She also doesn't have air conditioning or a washing machine, doesn't iron  clothes, doesn't use a refrigerator, and enthusiastically promotes saving indigenous seeds, composting, water conservation, waste-free living, organic food, solar food processing,. Works for cancer patients and continues research and promotion of transfer of sustainable technologies. She purchases only four commodities from the market i.e. tea leaves, salt and jaggery. She does not generate  any waste,  no use plastic or chemicals. She keeps it with her a Steel Bottle and glass and cloth handkerchief . There is no garbage bin in the house.


The speaker of the program, Professor Dr. Ajay Chandak, explained in detail how work is being done on solar energy not only in India but also in many countries abroad and how solar energy can help in controlling the increasing amount of carbon dioxide. How mobile devices will provide a new direction and condition to the society was highlighted. At the end, at the Indian Institute of Technology, Indore, DR Sarkar explained how IIT, through the 'Butterfly' project, Indore is running rural development works in collaboration with various institutions. ,
  This lecture was attended by Professor Suhas . S Joshi, Director of Indian Institute of Technology Indore, Professor Sandeep Chaudhary, Principal of Kendriya Vidyalaya, Smt. Neelam Malviya, students of Kendriya Vidyalaya, teachers and many scholars from the world of science. At the end of this program, Professor Suhas S. Joshi, Director, Indian Institute of Technology Indore, honored both the guests with mementos and at the end of the program, Shri S.P. Hota Register thanked all the guests.
