Students from  13 Countries  learnt Sustainable Living from PadmaShri Janak Palta McGilligan

On August 21, the The Emerald Heights International School students of the AFS BP STEM Program had the enriching opportunity to visit the Jimmy McGilligan Centre for Sustainable Development. Upon arriving at the centre, the students were immediately captivated by the numerous sustainable practices being implemented. The centre is a living model of how one can harmoniously integrate sustainability into daily life. From renewable energy systems to organic farming techniques, the students witnessed firsthand the many different ways sustainability can be achieved.

According to students" As we explored the centre, the students were introduced to various projects that embody the principles of sustainable development. They were particularly impressed by the use of solar energy, water conservation methods, and the centre’s commitment to zero-waste living. The hands-on experience allowed the students to understand the practical applications of sustainability, leaving them both informed and inspired."

"A highlight of the visit was the Power point presentation by PadmaShri Janak Palta McGilligan , JanakPaltaMcGilligan, the driving force behind the centre. She shared her deeply inspiring life journey as a Baha'i Pioneer along with her dedicated husband Late James R. McGilligan O. B .E , U.K Baha'i Pioneer , recounting how she overcame significant health challenges to continue her work in sustainable development. She also spoke passionately about her role in establishing the Barli Development Institute for Rural Women, dedicated to empowering rural tribal women through education and training. Her story of resilience and dedication resonated deeply with the students, many of whom expressed admiration for her unwavering commitment to making a positive impact on the world.

The visit concluded with a lively Question & Answer session, where students eagerly engaged with Madam JanakPalta, seeking advice and insights into how they could contribute to a more sustainable future. The enthusiasm and curiosity displayed by the students were clear indicators of the impact the visit had on them.Overall, the visit to the Jimmy McGilligan Centre for Sustainable Development was an eye-opening experience for our students. It not only broadened their understanding of sustainability but also inspired them to think critically about how they can incorporate these practices into their own lives. The knowledge and inspiration gained from this visit will contribute positively to the students' future endeavours."
